The Orthodox Mission as a Testimony and Presence of the Church

by Metropolitan Serafim (Kykotis)

Missionary work is closely tied to the life of the early Church. In fact, it is the holy work of evangelizing the Gentiles that our Lord Jesus Christ began with his divine teaching and his sacrifice on the cross, and, in general, with his entire redemptive work. The apostles and disciples of Christ continued this holy missionary work, obeying his command on the day of his ascension into heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. Amen.” (Matt. 28:19-20)…

Metropolitan Serafim (Kykotis)

His Eminence Metropolitan Serafim (Kykotis) is the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Zimbabwe and Angola, and Exarch of Southern Africa, under His Beatitude, Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa. An active Orthodox missionary for the entirety of his ecclesiastical career, he represents the Patriarchate of Alexandria at several international organizations, such as the UN, the AU (African Union), and the World Council of Churches (Central Committee and Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development), the All-African Conference of Churches, and the official International Theological Dialogue of Orthodox and Anglicans. With the blessing of Patriarch Theodoros and the Patriarchal Synod in Alexandria, Metropolitan Serafim ordained the first female deacon in Africa, Archdeaconess Angelic-Phoebe Molen, on Holy Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Harare, Zimbabwe.
