The Orthodox Church in Dialogue with Judaism: Toward an Official Document?

by Sandrine Caneri

An official document of understanding between two communities necessarily begins with an encounter, and so it must be for the Orthodox Christians and the Jews. Spurred by the tragedies of the Second World War, many in the Christian community have recognized the importance of such an encounter, not only for the healing of God’s people, but also for the mutual spiritual enrichment that is the desired fruit of such an exchange.

Sandrine Caneri

Sandrine Caneri is an Orthodox biblical scholar focusing on intertextuality between the two Testaments and between Jewish and Christian traditions of oral interpretation. She teaches at Saint Sergius Institute in Paris and in Orthodox parishes. Caneri has been engaged in Jewish-Christian dialogue for nearly thirty years, and was appointed by the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France to lead this dialogue in France. She has authored many articles and two books: Rencontre de Rébecca au puits (Paris: Cerf, 2014) and Ce que dit la Bible sur la solitude (Paris: Nouvelle-cité, 2019). She offers several talks online at http://codj.fr.
