Foreword

by Nikolaos Asproulis

Metropolitan John (Zizioulas) of Pergamon, perhaps the most creative thinker of the contemporary Orthodox Church, was born in a small village near Kozani, Greece, in 1931. He studied theology at the University of Athens, where he received his degree in 1955. With a scholarship, he traveled abroad to study at Harvard University, where he received a master’s degree.

Nikolaos Asproulis

Deputy director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies and a lecturer at Hellenic Open University. He has authored many articles and essays and edited many books on contemporary Orthodox theology, spirituality, political theology, ecotheology, and theological education.
