Sergii Bulgakov’s great love for the biblical figure of Sophia, or holy Wisdom, a love that shines from so many of his writings, was a natural outworking of his life’s journey as a priest and spiritual father. Bulgakov was an accomplished scholar, to be sure, but he was also a dedicated pastor.

Mgr. Kateřina Kočandrle Bauer, Th.D. is a senior researcher and lecturer at the Ecumenical Institute of the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague. She teaches systematic theology and Christian spirituality. She has written widely on Russian religious philosophy and anthropology in Orthodox theology, including for collective monographs such as The Ways of Orthodox Theology in the West (2015) and Wrestling with the Mind of the Fathers (2015).
