The Church and Sexuality

by Christos Yannaras

Church” and “sexuality” are two words that relate to the human being as a relationship that takes place, not as an individual, not as an undifferentiated unit of the species. They refer to human existence as an active event and an effective presence, before both event and presence are “immobilized” by abstract thought into a conceptual entity.

Christos Yannaras

Christos Yannaras was a professor emeritus of philosophy at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens. He studied theology at the University of Athens and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Paris. He received PhDs from the Faculty of Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences Humaines at the Sorbonne. His research focused on the differences between the Greek and Western European traditions, drawing together philosophy, theology, and social criticism to speak in an original way about traditional and contemporary issues of human existence, as well as the latest challenges of modern empirical science and political engagement.
